Self-control is one of the qualities of a good leader and a quality that can help your child succeed in life. It is an attitude than can be developed in a child through positive discipline. Most of us can still remember the story of the marshmallow test where a group of children were each given a marshmallow and were told that if they will not eat the marshmallow within a specified time, they will get a reward of an additional marshmallow. Some of the kids passed the test while the others didn’t. Those who passed waited and waited for the reward, which was a good exercise of self-control. Positive discipline can help children develop self-control. When parents tell their children to do something and will get a reward later if they obey mommy or daddy. That is also a way of teaching self-control. The child will not think anymore of what he or she really likes to do but instead, will be motivated to do what was instructed of him or her to receive the reward later on.
